Road to become a web celebrity!

After more than a year of web mastering I decided to start my own blog celebrityon.com. This domain was sitting on my server and I have never done anything on it. My earlier idea was to start a celebrity gossip blog on it, but I eventually dumped that idea. Mostly because, I found that niche is not my cup of tea! Also getting genuine contents and photos of celebrities is not easy if you want your blog to be a legitimate one. I’ve seen many celebrity gossip blogs that steals content from many larger sites by copy-pasting their content or grab their content using various wordpress plugins especially rss-grabber plugins. WP-o-Matic is one of the widely used rss grabber wordpress plugin that I have tested earlier and it worked great. Many website uses that plugin to fetch contents from bigger and better blogs via the rss feeds. This way of getting content is not always a legitimate ones and one need to read the terms & conditions of the websites from which they are fetching content. In most of the cases no websites allowed anyone to grab their content via rss feeds and post them in their blog/website even if you are providing the link to the original website. You may be allowed to use few lines to quote from the original website but never allowed to copy and paste the total article. In any case always read the terms and conditions to use the content from any blog or website.

Anyway, as I said this blog is not about celebrity gossips, or how to create a successful celebrity gossip site – because I do not have the necessary knowledge. CelebrityOn is all about my journey to become a successful webmaster and eventually a web celebrity – that is my ultimate goal. In this blog I’ll post all that I have learned through designing and creating blogs/websites in various niches mostly flash gaming niche. I have tried few niches like celebrity gossips, travel blogs, and arcade websites other than few small niches over that last 1-2 years and eventually found something that I like. I have created several websites in various niches and I found that I liked the arcade web mastering most. I love to play games; especially the flash games and I decided to work on further in this niche mostly because this is what I love. I have a flash gaming website arcadevine.com that I have developed over an year and I loved it. Before I started working on arcadevine I have no prior knowledge on PHP and MySQL. At that time I was looking for some cheap scripts that can be used to start my own arcade website and I found few scripts that are free to use like AV Arcade script, Arcadem free version, and PHP-Quick-Arcade. There are several other good paid scripts like Arcadem Pro, PHPAS, Game Site Script, OnArcade, etc. There are several other good arcade scripts available in the market now that I have not looked at. Among the paid versions of the scripts I only tested the Arcadem Pro and I have not liked it. I know several persons who love Arcadem Pro, but I never liked it probably because I did not understand it. I was basically looking for a script that is easy to understand and can be modified easily. Among the three free scripts that I have mentioned earlier I liked the PHP-Quick-Arcade (PHPQA) most because it has inbuilt high score system. No free scripts has inbuilt high score system to my knowledge one year ago, this might be true even now. So, I installed phpqa on my website arcadevine and started developing the site. The default look of phpqa was not good enough for me, so I decided to change it, and here comes the first roadblock. As I said earlier, a year ago I had very limited knowledge of php, and I soon found out that modifying phpqa is not easy even for a good php programmer mostly because, it is not well structured. All the codes of phpqa was cramped into a single php file which is 2000+ lines long and for someone like me to dig inside it and start modifying it was not easy. But, I started to learn php through various forums and websites and started modifying it bit by bit. The creator of phpqa was Jcink – I do not know his real name, but he has helped me a lot to understand various codes in phpqa. Eventually I understood all those 2000+ lines of codes and able to modify my website to my likings. I have added numerous new mods to phpqa and still working on it to make it perfect.

I have received many emails from many people to release some of my phpqa mods, and I’ve decided to do so. I’ve published some important fixes to phpqa in the phpqa forum and will publish more. From now on I’ll post many of my mods and fixes to phpqa in this blog. So, check out for them regularly. I will also regularly post my knowledge about the arcade industry that I’ve learned and may be some other articles related to me and my work. This is for today, have fun guys!
